Forty in 2024

Hello and Welcome to you all.

The Walk this year 2023 was super, the sun shone brightly, with blue skies and whispy clouds. My husband and I put up the signs, as we always do, on the Sunday accompanied by our14 month old Patterdale Cross called Taffy. Last year I mentioned that we would be taking them both, sadly though one died with lymphoma before his first birthday in March so we couldn't.

Taffy came with us and a friend with her dog (an Irish Terrier) on a joy filled morning/afternoon beginning at Godmersham and finishing at Molash.

We started off at Godmersham with a delicious array of foods to tempt all needs- covering GF/DF/Vg/V including mouth watering bacon sizzling in the back ground. We walked past the splendid Godmersham Park house, home to the Knights, in particular Edward Knight (previously Austen) who was the brother to Jane Austen, learn more about its history and what's on by visiting www.godmershamheritage.webs.com email godmershamheritage@gmail.com

We carried on through their beautiful parkland out onto Mountain street and walked briskly down with Chilham Castle parklands on our left and eventually walked past the school to the carpark at the top turned right towards the church. Several folk were there ready to register our incoming. Plenty of delicious looking foods were available with a selection of GF. We decided to go with tea and cake and then went on our way down the church path, across a little lane, that leads back up to the top carpark, down a little trail that leads to the main road where opposite it is the footpath required that brings you back onto the arrowed signs. we walked through fields, through a farmyard and out via some very handsome wrought iron gates and across the road towards the orchards that weren't I'm sad to say quite out in blossom .

The photo above shows us fairly close to Molash which is where we were ending our walk that day as my husband and I had to get back to help with clearing up, and talking the signs down which meant an extra few miles to go...

Food at Molash looked delicious and after registering our finish, we stayed to have tea and cake after learning that they had run out of bacon, so we couldn't indulge in a bacon buttie. Then it was time to return home after having spent a few glorious hours outside and meeting lovely people on route. Well done to all who walked and were involved in organising, route posting and catering. Bravo !!!

This coming year 2024 the walk will be Anti clockwise

The walk will also be celebrating its 40th anniversary. We shall be celebrating all things 40 which can be bought on the day and will be given as pdfs to avoid excess weight to be carried, as well as show casing past Parish magazines and Nature notes from 1984 to 2023.

We shall be introducing a new walking feature specifically designed for children and will be limiting the number to 40. The walk will be around the Godmersham loop and incorporating activities as we go with food afterwards. There will be a fee per child.

I would love for you all to send me your old photos and more recent ones along with thoughts and memories so that we can feature them on the day at all five churches.
