The Five Church Walk is only days away!
All ready for a great day on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May 2016
Months of planning for this year’s annual fundraising walk of up to 16 miles in the Kent countryside (including the launch of this website) have at last been completed, and our committee is confident that this will be the best yet with walkers exceeding last year’s record of 501 registrations.
After two days’ terrible weather (15th/16th April) a short sunny walk between Chilham & Shottenden found bluebells in the woods, leaves appearing on trees & hedgerows, blossom in orchards and oilseed rape already turning yellow. In a fortnights time the countryside will look its best!
This week’s weather forecast is set fair, but even if we have no rain some parts of the route (other than between Godmersham & Chilham) may not dry out completely. Stout walking shoes with ribbed soles are recommended to be sure of not slipping, and a stick or walking poles will help. If not used regularly it is a good idea to dig these out now to check them over in readiness.
Conditions vary from year to year which is what makes each one so interesting and fun. Be ready for all conditions but it is unwise to get too encumbered to walk comfortably. Above all, enjoy the wonderfully varied scenery and the welcome at each church
