The Five Church Walk coming soon 6th May 2019
The It’s time to start planning for this year’s important fundraising event supporting not only the usual five churches but also The Pilgrims Hospices & Kent Air Ambulance who all depend on their share of the thousands of pounds raised for over thirty years. Committee members representing each church have met to make detailed plans, but the walks have run so smoothly that they are basically repeating a previous year’s arrangements, the difference this year is that the signage directs walkers clockwise (if seen from above). If starting at Chilham the 16 mile route goes via Godmersham, Boughton Aluph, Challock, Molash to Chilham, but many people prefer to register their start at another church and, following red arrows, walk to one or more churches, checking in at each.
The churches vie with each other to have the most delicious homemade refreshments for sale to the hungry walkers, and so this is where the committee will count as always on a team of willing helpers to prepare & serve all comers. I don’t know who will be organizing the Chilham team, but I hope readers of this will respond to their call when made. There is also the usual requirement for stewards throughout Bank Holiday Monday to process walkers’ entry/gift aid forms, receive the donations & check in arrivals using the well-tried system.
But we also need more walkers supporting Chilham Church as our many regular walkers are feeling the effect of advancing years. Our unofficial annual target (usually met) is to raise over £1,000 for the ongoing repairs to the fabric of our large & beautiful church. Adult walkers are each invited to donate a minimum of £5 (which if gift aided is worth £6.25) to their choice at whichever church they start from. (NB The other four churches will have made similar appeals for support.)
