          Route: Challock to/from Molash (3 ¾ miles)

N.B. These notes just give an outline of the route for which the way is specially marked out by large dayglow red arrows whose direction varies between clockwise & anticlockwise as shown in each year’s publicity. The following two descriptions starting from opposite ends finish at a single defined point, continuing from which it should not be difficult to read sentences in reverse order

Leaving Molash Church Lane, the route crosses the busy A252 to a footpath across two fields to enter the Forestry Commission’s King’s Wood. After a steep descent, the route turns right onto a wide grassy track. After ascending the slight gradient between bluebell carpeted slopes, turn right through a side gate into a lane passing a house to a kissing gate.   This gives access to a path through trees with the forest floor solid with bluebells.  Regain the forest drive & proceed to where a pleasant footpath exits half right to emerge onto grass paddocks before a narrow path to the very busy A 251.  Cross it with care!

As explained on its description page, Challock church is isolated from its village, served only by a quiet road which starts with a steep climb between wooded banks before levelling out between fields.  Passing the school & houses to crossroads, it turns right to follow that road as far as the village hall car park.  It then crosses a playing field diagonally past the cricket square to a gap in the hedge.  Great caution is needed crossing the very busy A251 to a very narrow footpath.

By now the weather was dry & brightening up, which was perfect for walking in the forest.

The morning had some drizzle but most of the day was merely damp with cooling breezes, ideal walking conditions apart from some mud & puddles necessitating proper walking footwear.  The refreshments on sale at each church were welcomed and everybody seemed to enjoy the walk.
